Biography

Born in Schaerbeek (Brussels, Belgium), Georges Pelletier learned the craft of pottery at the Freinet School.

From 1953 to 1955, the young man studied drawing and the applied arts at the Académie Charpentier (School of Arts and Crafts). During this period, he honed his skills in ceramics under the guidance of ceramist Claude Pantzer, and occasionally visited Fernand Léger’s studio.

In 1956, Georges completed an internship at the Accolay Pottery and decided to stay there. There he met the Italian-Canadian ceramicist Raphaël Giarrusso. Together, they pioneered a new style by combining metal wire with ceramics to create lamps and articulated sculptures.
The two men decided to strike out on their own and take a chance by opening a shared studio on Rue Rébeval in Paris in 1964.
