Biography

Italian lighting designer Oscar Torlasco (b. Rome, 1934-2004) designed for many Italian lighting manufacturers, including Esperia and Stilkronen, although he spent most of his career working for Lumi.

Particularly active in the 1950s and 1960s, Torlasco’s fixtures – which include wall lights, floor lamps, lamps and chandeliers – were often constructed in industrial chromed steel, which he combined with more luxurious materials such as marble, crystal and brass. His eclectic creations ranged from industrial and Space Age to Italian Art Deco. The use of optical glass lenses in his designs is considered Torlasco’s signature. In 1959, he was awarded a Compasso d`Oro for his Genova 4053 (1959) public lighting.
