Biography

Maxime Old (1910-1991)

Maxime Old was born on December 13, 1910 in Maisons-Alfort. After four years spent at the École Boulle, he joined Ruhlmann where he remained until 1934. Former vice-president of the Society of Decorative Artists, former professor of decoration at the Center Art et Technique of the Central Union of Decorative Arts , Maxime Old is a professor of decoration at the École Normale Supérieure for Technical Education and a lecturer at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs. Maxime Old has exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs from 1935, at the Salons d’Automne, at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and at the Arts Ménagers. Abroad, in Lisbon in 1949, in Copenhagen and Venezuela in 1950, in New York in 1952. He won diplomas, gold medals and prizes. The Mobilier National has ordered furniture sets from him for the Town Hall and the Ministry of Finance, for the French Embassy in The Hague and for the Helsinki Legation. He collaborated in the development of the liners « Atlantique », « Île de France », « Liberté », « Ville de Marseille », « Flandre », « Antilles ». He executed the office of the Managing Director of Etablissements Schneider & Cie, the Council room and the management offices of the Régie Autonome des Pétroles, various rooms and offices of the Chambre Syndicale de l’Ameublement and of a Champagne house, in Epernay; for the Compagnie Paquet, the Hotel Marhaba, in Casablanca and at the same time many private facilities.
