Erik Buch (Denmark, 1923-1982)
Erik Buch is a Danish industrial designer born in 1923 in Copenhagen. His love of wood and craftsmanship leads him towards a Scandinavian style, aesthetic and functional. His notoriety is based on his creations of chairs, stools and furniture. He makes oak, rosewood, grained wood and polished teak his favorite materials, which he combines with fabric and leather.
Among his most notable successes are his Model 49 chair in 1949 and his Model 61 bar stool in 1961 which are his trademark styles with organically sculpted lines. Other Erik Buch designs include the Captains Chair (1955) for Orum Mobler, the Model 310 dining chair, and a T-shaped rosewood bar stool in 1960.
The organic and functional structure of Erik Buch’s design characterizes the true Danish design tradition. After his death in 1982, Buch’s legacy lives on, his creations still enjoyed today in high-end bars around the world.
