Biography

Charles Ramos

From a family of cabinetmakers, Charles Ramos was born in Algeria in 1925. After a year at the Beaux-Arts in Algiers, he joined the army for six years, joining the Free French Forces in London in the ranks of French aviation.

Back in Paris, he underwent the return to civilian life for two years and finally signed his first interior architecture project by meeting clients on Rue du Faubourg Saint Antoine. He subsequently created his agency in 1950 in association with Mr. Castellanetta, his first and exclusive publisher of furniture and seats until the 1970s.

In 1952, he exhibited for the first time at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs while beginning a collaboration with Louis Baillon as an interior designer with complete development programs and joint participations in the Salon des Arts Ménagers and Salon des Artistes. Decorators.

By mutual agreement, the designers separated and Charles Ramos became more involved in the Reconstruction projects in Normandy by equipping hotels and discovering the field of community. It is in this area that the designer met Jacques Biny with whom he decided to collaborate. Among other creations, he designed the very beautiful 226 wall light called « Hublot » for Luminalite in 1958.
