“André” table in chrome metal and glass, by Tobia Scarpa, Gavina
Italy, 1960

Story

Gavina Spa was founded by Dino Gavina in 1960, who took on the role of general director and brought in architect Carlo Scarpa as artistic director.

The company’s historic headquarters were located in San Lazzaro di Savena, in a building designed by Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1959.

In 1962, Dino Gavina met Marcel Breuer in New York and from this meeting was born a collaboration that allowed him to reissue and realize his projects from the 1920s.

Among the designers who worked for the company, let us cite Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Achille Castiglioni, Carlo Scarpa, Ignazio Gardella, Tobia Scarpa.

After the sale of the American company Knoll and the closure of the Bolognese brand, some products from the Gavina collection were sold under the Knoll brand, while others were sold to other manufacturers.
