Biography
Percival Lafer, Brasil (1936)
A graduate of architecture from MacKenzie University in Sao Paulo, Percival Lafer joined the family business Lafer & Co in the 1960s. In charge of design and product development. His obsession was, from then on, innovation. Each design had to reflect state-of-the-art technologies applied to innovative ideas. Each design had to be original, different and therefore patentable. The company was renamed Lafer MP (Moveis Patenteados).
The fiberglass department was the first to be created in and for the furniture industry, but it opened up many other perspectives, telephony (« Big Ears » telephone), automobiles, etc…
Percival Lafer devoted most of his time to creating new products. He could not indulge his passion for architecture due to his total dedication to the family business, but he nevertheless designed many remarkable houses for his personal friends.
His passion for deconstructing and reconstructing cars, cultivated since childhood, first with toys then in reality, led to the creation in 1975 of the MP Lafer, a two-seater fiberglass automobile which was a great success.
