Pair of ceramic lamps, by Jean Roger
France, circa 1960
Biography
Founded in 1947, Maison Jean Roger is known worldwide for its exquisite and original ceramics. Its founder, Jean, was a visionary and daring ceramist: in the mid-1950s, he distinguished himself by creating original models that inspired collectors and famous designers, notably Hans Knoll for his furniture, Jean Royère, the houses Jansen, Dior and Chanel. Jean Roger was soon joined by his son Jean-Jacques, who introduced trompe-l’oeil enamel, a lacquer technique applied to earthenware which became his signature.
